There are plenty of surgeries that are done everyday, but Rhinoplasty surgery is one of those that needs to be done right the first time. If it’s not, then a revision surgery may be needed. You may be wondering how a surgery like that works and why you might want to get it done.
A Rhinoplasty revision is something that is done when an original Rhinoplasty was done incorrectly or there was too much bone taken from the nose. This is one of the harder surgeries to do because they are if too much has been taken from the nose, there is less to work with to get the nose looking better.
When too much cartilage has been taken, new cartilage will need to be collected from another part of the body. This way the nose can be reconstructed and made to look better. The skin and flesh will need to be lifted on to the bridge of the nose in order for the Doctor to see what is going on in there. If it’s not lifted, then there is no way to get a good visual of the bones and structure.
Repairing the damage from the first Rhinoplasty
The most tricky part of this revision surgery is that there won’t be as much cartilage and flesh to work with and there will need to be a replacement in order to build the nose back up and repair what the damage from the first Rhinoplasty.
In some patients an injection of steroids is all that is needed in order to help repair the nose damage. They can work with a simple shot that only takes a moment to do instead of doing a complete open approach with the nose. This will also mean the recovery time is a lot different.
Some patients can also go with an inside the nostril approach. This only involves a simple cut within the nose. This can help with recovery time as well as swelling and the look of the nose. This approach also is less time consuming when it comes to hospital stays and recovery time.
Getting a Rhinoplasty revision is something that can be done, but it is very hard to do in most cases. It’s really going to depend on what was done already and what is needed. When the damage is only a small amount, then the nose can be fixed to look better than it did before and closer to what you want with your Rhinoplasty. You should take into consideration what your doctor says before you go with this kind of surgery so you know you are getting the best job you can.
