Brachioplasty (Arm Lift) in Corona CA by Ray Khan and Estrella Aesthetics
Brachioplasty or arm lift may transform someone’s body appearance dramatically.
The indications for a brachioplasty or arm left are:
- excess skin
- excess fat
- inelastic excessive skin
The most common patient to request this procedure is one that has had a significant weight loss either by their own diet and exercise or more commonly, after bariatric weight loss surgery, such as the LapBand procedure.
Some patients with good skin tone, mild to moderate excess skin and fat may achieve a successful and satisfactory result by using VASER Liposuction or Ultrasound Liposuction alone. This technique of liposuction results in 25-30% less bleeding and bruising than standard suction liposuction, 53% more skin tightening than standard suction liposuction and 35% better skin tightening than laser liposuction such as SmartLipo.
Brachioplasty Technique:
The goal of the arm lift is to minimize the length of the incision, while removing as much excess skin as possible. The procedure can be performed with the patient under oral sedation, local wetting solution anesthesia and adding additional intravenous mild sedation if necessary for a comfortable procedure. The length of discomfort after the procedure requiring narcotic anesthesia is for 2-5 days with mild severity. A pressure dressing is in place for three days and mild compression with an ace elastic wrap thereafter for 3-4 week duration.
To minimize the length of the incision, a pre-surgical treatment with noninvasive body contouring and noninvasive skin tightening modalities to include non-focused ultrasound (VASERshape) and radiofrequency devices (Skin tite, Venus Freeze, Venus Legacy) are used to maximally shrink or tighten the skin before the surgical procedure. These modalities assist in both removing the most amount of fat during the liposuction aspect of the arm lift and limiting the length of the incision as a result of the previous skin tightening.
The surgical brachioplasty technique includes:
- cardiac monitoring, intravenous line placement, oral and intravenous sedation
- photographs, marking the patient’s arm for the incision and extent of liposuction and skin undermining
- administration of the wetting solution anesthetic fluid with a blunt tip cannula
- ultrasound liposuction (VASER liposuction)
- surgical incision, skin undermining and excision of excess skin in a superficial plane.
- close the skin in a plastic surgery closure technique, place pressure dressing
- surgery is complete and patient walks usually without assistance with no nausea
The arm lift or brachioplasty can make a profound aesthetic change to someone’s arm appearance. Ray Khan is an Aesthetics, Sports and Regenerative Medicine physician.
